The Kenyan site educational component features a partnership between 80 seventh graders at Longfellow Middle School, Berkeley, USA and Sena Primary School, Mfangano Island, Kenya. As a part of the program, graduate students Lauren Withey, Erika Gavenus, Erin Milner, and Katie Fiorella orient students to the research they are doing on the BHL project and help students connect with each other through pen pal letters. Thus far, the students have asked each other a myriad of questions, and upcoming lessons will focus particularly on food — where students get their food and what they eat.
